The Black Belt is the reason

Alabama's reputation rests on a band of dark, calcium-rich prairie soil running through the middle of the state — Dallas, Perry, Marengo, Wilcox, Hale, and Bullock counties. That soil grows better forage, which grows bigger deer, and lease prices in those counties reflect it. North Alabama timber and the piney woods south of the belt run considerably cheaper for the same acreage.

As in Georgia, most access is sold as club memberships. Compare dues per member and acres per gun rather than per-acre rates, because that's how this market actually prices itself.

One of the longest seasons anywhere

Alabama deer season stretches from mid-October into early February across much of the state, among the longest in the country and a real part of what you're paying for. A lease priced the same as one in a state with a three-week gun season is buying you three or four times the days afield.

Spring turkey is close to a second season here. Alabama holds some of the best Eastern turkey hunting in the South, and turkey-only spring access is a common way onto good ground without committing to the fall.
