Arkansas duck hunting comes in two forms. Green timber — flooded pin oak bottoms where mallards drop through the canopy — is the hunt the state is famous for, and it's concentrated around the Cache and White river systems and the bottomland near Stuttgart. Flooded rice and bean fields across the Grand Prairie are the other half, hunted from pits and blinds over decoys.
The two hunt very differently and price differently. Timber holes are scarcer and command more; ag fields are more plentiful and depend more on how well the water is managed.
Ask about the water first: pumped or rain-dependent, who controls the levees, and how the ground performed in a dry year. Then ask how many guns hunt the property and whether blinds are assigned or first-come.
