Carrizo Springs and the Golden Triangle

Dimmit County sits inside the informal Golden Triangle — the cluster of Dimmit, La Salle, Webb, and McMullen counties that produces the heaviest-horned low-fence whitetail in Texas. Sandy loam over brush, decent rainfall by South Texas standards, and decades of MLD management explain most of it.

Expect to hunt from tripods and box blinds over feeders and senderos. This is not spot-and-stalk country; the brush is too thick to walk through quietly and too tall to glass across.

What leases here look like

Season leases are the norm, priced per gun and usually running from October through January or the end of the MLD season. Many places require you to take a set number of management deer along with your buck, which is worth understanding before you sign — it affects how many days you'll actually need to be there.

Dove, quail, and hogs fill the shoulder seasons, and a fair number of Dimmit County places sell dove day hunts around the September opener.
