Laredo's back yard

Webb County is the largest county in South Texas and one of the most consistent producers of mature low-fence whitetail in the state. The country is thick blackbrush and mesquite over caliche, running north and east out of Laredo toward the Dimmit and La Salle lines.

Most leases here are large — a thousand acres is a small one — and priced per gun for the season. Because the deer are naturally low-density, acreage per hunter matters more here than almost anywhere else in Texas; a place that carries four guns on 3,000 acres is a genuinely different product from one carrying ten.

Beyond deer

Nilgai are established across parts of the county and carry no closed season, and bobwhite quail come back strong in wet years. Dove hunting over senderos and stock tanks is excellent through the early season, and hogs run year-round — which makes Webb County ground worth something in every month, not just November and December.
